In Ontario, the government regulates that individuals must carry the following coverages:
Liability for Bodily Injury, Liability for Property Damage, Direct Compensation, Uninsured Motorists & Accident Benefits.
 

MANDATORY COVERAGE

Liability Coverage
Liability Coverage protects you from damage you do to others or to property in an accident. In Ontario, $1,000,000 liability is common, but we recommend that everyone should have $2,000,000.

Direct Compensation
In Ontario we have something called no-fault insurance, which means regardless of who is at fault, each insurance company pays for the damage to each car. Part of your premium is for this protection.

Accident Benefits
The government includes basic medical benefits for all drivers to protect them in the event of injury. However, there are options to purchase additional coverage. We recommend you consider additional coverage, based on your health plan at work and your family’s needs.

Uninsured Motorists
Experts estimate that 12-15% of drivers in Ontario do not carry insurance. You need protection from these people who operate outside the law. Part of your premium is for this protection.
 

OPTIONAL COVERAGES

Collision Coverage
If you are in an accident where you are deemed to be at fault, you need collision coverage to protect the physical damage to your vehicle. This also protects you in a hit & run and parking lot accidents.

Comprehensive Coverage
This coverage protects you from fire, theft, vandalism, falling objects, and collision with an animal. It also covers glass repairs.
 

ADDITIONAL COVERAGE OPTIONS

Loss of Use (Rental Car Coverage or OPCF 20)
This coverage allows you to rent a car while your vehicle is being repaired.

Damage to Non-Owned Vehicle (OPCF 27)
This is the coverage you should have if you ever rent a vehicle while traveling. It saves you paying the rental car company insurance rates, which are usually per day. The coverage is good anywhere in Canada and the continental U.S.  For more details, make sure you ask your broker before your trip!

Claims Forgiveness
You have earned a good driving record. We want to see you keep it. Claims forgiveness allows you to protect your driving record.

Waiver of Depreciation
This coverage will waive depreciation on your vehicle, usually for 24 months. This means that if your new car is in an accident a year after you buy it, you can replace it with a new vehicle.

Multi-policy discount
If you insure your car and home with the same company, it will offer you a discount off both your car and your home.

Multi-vehicle discount
All companies offer discounts if you have more than one vehicle.

Short commute discount/Low Mileage
Many of our companies offer discounts for a short commute or no commute.

Deductible Discount
If you choose a higher deductible you can save money! But don’t make this decision lightly. Please discuss the option with your broker.

Away at School Discount
If your son or daughter attends college or university you can qualify for a discount off their occasional-driver premium.

Maturity/Senior Discount
Most our companies offer discounts based on your age.

Conviction Free Discount
If you have no convictions you qualify for a discount with some of our companies.

Experience
Some of our companies give discounts based on the number of years you have been driving.
